Excerpts from the register of baptisms in Hötensleben
by Omar Hobohm, with records compiled by Mrs. Buchwald

Last summer I spent three weeks in Hötensleben, where I participated with 16 other students and young people from all over the world in a workcamp to maintain a section of the former inner-German border fortifications, which have been retained by the town as a historical memorial. http://www.grenzdenkmaeler.de/hoetensleben/Hoetensleben.htm

The border fortifications near Hötensleben
The choice of Hötensleben for such a holiday activity was not entirely coincidental, since Hötensleben is the the birthplace of my grandfather and we had already paid a brief visit to the place in 1998. During this longer stay in the town, however, I had the opportunity to establish personal contacts with many of the local residents. I received a particularly cordial welcome from the town’s mayor, Mr. Buchwald, whose wife very kindly prepared copies of the following excerpts of the local registers of baptisms for me.

I am extremely grateful to Mr. And Mrs. Buchwald, and to the entire community of Hötensleben, for the very warm welcome I received there, of which the excerpts presented here provide only a very small indication.
